The Historical city of Mysore, founded in the 16th century, was the capital of the erstwhile Mysore State. It is a city of natural beauty and royal aura situated 139 kms southwest of Bangalore, the Capital of Karnataka State. Notable among the tourist attractions at Mysore are the Mysore Palaces, zoo, Chamundi Hill and temple, township of Srirangapatna (12 kms from Mysore), an island in the Cauvery river, built by Tippu Sultan its famous ruler and the Mysore Pak! Mysore is now famous for its cotton and silk industries and of course this famous Medical College.
Mysore Medical College, run by the Government of Karnataka, was established in the year 1924. It is one of the earliest Medical schools to be established in the country and the first in the Karnataka state. Every year the most brilliant of the students seek their admission in this famous medical school. Over the years it has produced many stalwarts in the various branches of medicine.
